Welcome fiddlers!! Nothing “beats” out a fiddle for a fun time!! Come learn about Old-Time fiddle styles and tunes.
Workshop Format:
San Diego fiddler Beth Mosko will be leading this workshop. We will continue with fiddle technique and some old-time tunes. Right arm application with bow hand and bow arm. Left hand application for intonation, double stops, slurs and slides. This will help the beginning old-time fiddler to start applying the necessary techniques for that” Old-Time feeling” with their tunes. We will continue to practice shuffle bowing and use it with a tune or two.. Effective practice will be reviewed through standard old-time fiddle tunes taught “by ear”. Several tunes will be taught using the above applications. Tips for playing in jam sessions will be discussed, as well as requested topics. Please bring questions with you ..we all learn from them!! This workshop is geared toward adv.beg.- fiddlers. Beginning fiddlers are also welcomed to come and join us…you may audit the workshop or sit in…the fee would be the same as for Adv. Beginning fiddlers.
Beth Mosko is a classically trained violinist and has performed with numerous orchestras and quartets in Northern Colorado, Wyoming and Western Nebraska. She experienced a musical conversion to old-time, bluegrass and other similar acoustic genres in 2000 while performing with folk artists and the nationally touring jamgrass band, Victor Barnes. While living in Iowa City, IA, she studied old-time fiddle with acclaimed musician and folk music historian Al Murphy, and was hooked from that point on.
Since moving to San Diego in 2003, Beth has performed and recorded with local bands: Gone Tomorrow, North Forty, 7th Day Buskers, Second Delivery and Last Transit. Beth enjoys teaching fiddle and classical violin out of her studio in San Diego and has been an inspiration for all levels of students for the past nine years.
